October 15, 1989 Dear Friends: When our secretary asked me if I would write a few lines to accompany your membership card I answered: "of course, I will". Now I find it one of the hardest things I've had to do. I see faces, faces of long ago, faces of loved ones, relatives, old friends, new friends too. Faces of people I can't remember ever meeting before, all asking if there is some way they can help in what the Memorial society is trying to do. I see the face of our vice-president, Fred Burdick, concerned about not doing enough because he has move so far away, when actually it is he who laid the foundation for our organization in 1984, by depositing a thousand dollars as a start-up fund. I see the face of our capable secretary, who has volunteered to burden herslef with all the things a secretary has to do. I also see the face of Joanna Smith, who has volunteered, has been doing typing for our organization, and does whatever else I ask her to do. I see the face of Anthony Schillizzi, my son-in-law, who has cheerfully designed - free of charge - the logo for our membership cards and the masthead for our newsletter. How can you thnak people like that? Yes, I see faces, lovely, friendly and smiling faces, and I think God for each one of them (somethimes I think old eyes fill with tears easier than young ones). I am so grateful to all of you. Thank you! Thank you, each one of you, so very much! Glen Furst, President |
