MIA Newsletters

The MIA Newsletter began as a replacement for newsletters published fairly regularly since the summer of 1989 by an islands-related reunion organization. The last of those newsletters appeared in the summer of 2006, although the remnants of that organization has sporadically published some others since, the first of which appeared some 2-1/2 years later.

After publishing a few issues of the MIA Newsletter, the reality became clear; most of the people involved with the islands reunion were elderly at the time of its inception over forty years ago, and by 2010 most of them had passed away. Thus, it had become difficult to obtain "news" about anyone associated with that special group of old-time island friends and neighbors, and there were very few left who would be interested in, or understand the meaning of, special news items related to them. The newsletter's articles therefore began to drift towards essays and reprints; content that was not really "news" and which seemed more appropriately presented elsewhere on the website. At that point the MIA newsletter effort was discontinued, and a "News" feature was added to the website for the purpose of sharing the occasional articles that do indeed qualify as news.

Past issues of the newsletters are archived here, the entire collection containing a wealth of historical and genealogical information. Consider using the Search tool to help locate documents containing information about particular individuals, families or subjects.
